Help Us Turn The Page!

Barb's Used Book & Music Sale has been a beloved pillar for the people of Kamloops for 27 years, supporting the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and the KSO Music School while spreading the joy of music and reading to generations of audiences and book lovers. Tragically, the recent fire at St. Andrew's on the Square devastated our inventory and infrastructure, but with your support, we can turn the page and write a new chapter for this cherished event.

We invite you to join us in revitalizing Barb’s Used Book & Music Sale. Your donations and support will help us bring back this institution stronger and better than ever. Together, we can continue to foster the joy for music and literacy in our community.

How You Can Help

1. Make a Donation
Your financial contributions are crucial to getting Barb’s Sale back on track. Thanks to the support of Western Canada Theatre, we have an affordable venue for our Fall 2024 sale, but we need to cover the many one-time costs that will make the sale possible for years to come. To help keep the joy of music and reading alive in Kamloops, we need to raise $10,000. By joining us, you are becoming part of a winning team that is making a real impact, and you are maintaining a legacy that has inspired the people of our community for decades.

2. Donate Books & Music
We are in need of a wide range of books and music materials to replenish our inventory. Your donations will directly support the success of the sale and, in turn, benefit our music programs and community.

Donations will be gratefully accepted at the Pavilion Theatre, 1025 Lorne Street in September from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on the following dates: September 3-5, 7-9, and 14-16.

We are extremely grateful for all the generous donations but ask that donors keep in mind the life of a book and general interest. With so much now available online we have found that many of the books do not move through the sale anymore and end up going to recycling or landfill. Donors are reminded of the City of Kamloops’ book recycling program and are encouraged to look at the locations of the bins as this program continues to evolve, as it will help us and our amazing volunteers immensely. We will not be accepting the following items:

  • Magazines
  • Reader's Digest
  • Textbooks
  • Dictionaries
  • Encyclopedias
  • VHS and Cassette tapes
  • DVDs: We have “regifted” all the DVDs that survived the St. Andrew’s fire to the Kamloops Film Society to add to their inventory for sale and rental.

We have compiled a list of the most common purchases during the sale to aid with donation items:

  • Recent (2019 and up) mystery and general novels
  • Kids and teen books
  • Local/BC/Canadian History
  • Non-Fiction, including all general interest recent prints of sports, gardening, cookbooks, biographies, travel, and self-help
  • Puzzles and games
  • Vintage books in good quality
  • Music instruction books for all instruments
  • Vinyl records, especially the ones you listened to in your college & university days that filled the study halls

3. Donate Furniture
We are also in need of furniture to set up our sale area. This includes:

  • 8' Sturdy Folding Tables: For displaying books and music.
  • Chairs: For volunteers and book lovers.
  • Shelving Units (No more than 4' tall): To organize and display items.
  • Storage Totes (No more than 12" high): To store valuable items between sales.

Contact Sue at admin@kamloopssymphony.com or at 250.372.5000 if you can donate any of these items.
