How to access and enjoy our online concerts

Please use this guide to learn how to access, and best enjoy, your Kamloops Symphony online concert experience.

Accessing a concert online

After you have purchased your ticket you will receive an e-mail with a link to where you can watch the performance. There is no password to use, nor do you need to log in to anything, simply click the link in your e-mail and you'll be taken to a page that has the video. If you are on the concert viewing page before the official start time, the video will be showing as being private. Once the official start time of the concert arrives, refresh the page and you should see the video.

Troubleshooting

If you have the link but the stream will not load: Close and reopen your web browser. Open your e-mail and click the link again. If the stream is still not loading, try clearing your browser's cache. Here are instructions for each common web browser:

Chrome instructions
Safari instructions
Firefox instructions
Microsoft Edge instructions

If this has still not resolved the issue your internet connection may be down. Turn your computer off and back on and reset your modem or router if possible (unplug and leave it unplugged for 15 seconds, then plug it back in). If this still does not resolve your issue, contact your internet service provider for further assistance.

If the stream is working but lagging, delaying, or audio and video are out of sync: Please refresh the video player by clicking the circular arrow button next to your browser's address bar, OR pressing CTRL + R on Windows or COMMAND + R on Mac. Continue to refresh if and when you experience issues.

If you have no volume or sound issues: Please turn up the computer volume, and double check to make sure any external headphones or speakers that are connected are fully plugged in and turned on.

If sound is still an issue, check to see if the volume button on your video player is turned down or muted. You can also check if your browser tab is muted: right click on the tab at the top and the menu that appears should tell you whether the tab is muted.

Best practices for watching

While it is possible to watch our online concert experiences on any device that connects to the internet, whether this is a smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop computer, or smart television, there are some steps you can take to ensure you are getting the best experience possible. Here are our tips for watching our programs online:

1. Watch on your television.

Whenever possible, the Kamloops Symphony recommends watching our concerts on your TV. Most modern televisions can be connected to a computer, either by casting or by a cable. Please note that you will first need to load the concert on your computer or "smart" device before connecting to the TV.

Casting via Chromecast. If you own a Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, or a TV with Chromecast built-in, you can read instructions on how to connect here.

Casting via AirPlay. If you an AppleTV or a TV with AirPlay built in, you can read instructions on how to connect here.

Connecting physically via a cable. If you do not own a smart TV or device, you may be able to connect your laptop or desktop computer to the TV via a cable. You can read instructions on ways to connect here.

2. Ensure a good audio experience.

The most important element of a musical experience is the sound, and our computers/tablets/phones' built-in speakers do not always deliver the best quality.

If you are watching the concert on a laptop or desktop computer, we recommend connecting to a quality speaker set. If you have external speakers, you can connect your device via an auxiliary cable. Or, if you have more modern speakers you might connect through a Bluetooth connection. If you are enjoying the concert solo and do not have access to speakers, we recommend using headphones to connect to whichever device you are watching the performance on.

3. Ensure a good internet connection.

Nothing is more disappointing than missing moments due to a bad connection.

If you are on a WIFI connection, we recommend that you sit as close to your WIFI router as possible to ensure a strong signal.

When possible, if you are on a computer or laptop, we recommend hard-wiring into your modem via an Ethernet cable. this will ensure that you are getting the strongest connection, which will greatly reduce interruptions.

4. Use a recommended browser.

While all of our concerts will work on any standard internet browser, we recommend using Chrome, if possible, as it is the most compatible. You can download Chrome from here — click on "Download Chrome" and follow the instructions.

5. Make it an event!

Attending a live concert is a special experience, and there's no reason that attending a digital event can't be the same. If you are watching at home and other people are with you, invite you family,  partner, or roommates to gather around your device and watch together as a group. You can dim your lights, get comfortable, silence your phone, and make it an experience.
