Frequently Asked Questions

Who Is Barb?
close

The sale began in 1997, and was the brilliant idea of Barb Corbishley, one of the board members at the time. After her passing, it was renamed Barb’s Used Book & Music Sale in her honour.

Why has the book sale been so successful for 25 years?
close

We have an amazing group of volunteers who care very much about the KSO, the music, the books, and you! There is no way this sale would have become the enormous success that it has been for 25 years without them.

What happens when I drop off my books?
close

The volunteer sorters will ensure that the books you bring in during donation week are quickly priced and put back out all day, every day during the sale. These amazing individuals know their books and do their best to ensure they get back into readers, musicians, and listeners hands as soon as possible.

Why is there a list of things you will not take?
close

You see all the reminders of what we do not take during the sale. Here’s why. Text books are outdated and therefore can’t go back out. Unfortunately the internet has taken away our love of encyclopedias (you can tell how old I am by that comment!) and some of this information too is outdated. Magazines also may be outdated, somewhat tattered, and usually topic specific. You will see any on hand on the free table. Most of those remain there until they are discarded.

Thankfully, the City of Kamloops now has four locations where you can recycle books:

  • Tournament Capital Centre, 910 McGill Road, lobby (drop books in the bright yellow carts)
  • North Kamloops Library, 693 Tranquille Road (drop off books with library attendant)
  • McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre, 1655 Island Parkway, lobby (drop books in the bright yellow carts)
  • Northills Shopping Centre, 700 Tranquille Road, north entrance - food court area (drop books in the bright yellow carts)

For more information about the book recycling bins, please consult the City of Kamloops website.

How do people show their support?
close

Finally, let’s talk about the incredible support we get with the donated use of the tables and the use of the space during our events. And never forget the incredible impact of those who donate, those who buy, and those who share our love of Barb’s Used Book and Music Sale. Nothing can truly replace that book in hand, the sheet music on the stand, or that record playing in the background.

Thank you for your support!
