From music director dina gilbert
Music is past, present and future. Through the power of music, connections between people are made, and we can better understand our world through experiencing a broad range of emotions. Our 2019-2020 season will certainly be an occasion to celebrate how music enriches our daily lives.
Every concert of our 43rd season will highlight the outstanding quality of our orchestra. Over the season, music lovers will be delighted to hear symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms and Mahler; exceptional concertos by Rodrigo, Clara Schumann, and Ethel Smyth, and works by renowned Canadian composers Jean Ethridge, José Evangelista, and Katia Makdissi-Warren.
Throughout the season, we will also welcome Canadian musicians of outstanding talent including violinist Timothy Chooi, guitarist Thierry Bégin-Lamontagne, and pianists Linda Ruan and Jaeden Izik-Dzurko. The KSO Chorus will join us for An evening at the opera, celebrating the genius of Mozart, Verdi, Rossini and Puccini; as well as for our soulful Luminous Voices with Fauré's beautiful Requiem.
Maestro Emeritus Bruce Dunn will be back on the podium for a tribute to Chicago, and guest conductor Michael Newnham will lead our holiday season concert featuring the charming and charismatic singers from the vocal quartet Quartom.
The musicians of the orchestra and I are eager to share this season of concerts with you, where high artistry will bring electricity to the stage! Be ready to be swept away by the captivating power of music!
