The next concert in our Chamber Music at The Rex series is Contrasts on Saturday, February 23 at 7:30 pm in The Rex Hall, featuring Kamloops’ own Sun Rivers Trio.

In this musical potpourri spanning the late 19th and 20th centuries, nostalgic romanticism yields to rhapsody, instrumental fusion yields to individuality, and unhurried somber resonance bursts into scintillating prisms, with due respects given to Brahms and Benny Goodman.

The programme includes one of the last works ever written by German composer Max Bruch (8 Pieces for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano), a work by contemporary American composer Rick Sowash (Trio # 2, for violin, clarinet and piano "American Variations on a Belarusian Folk Song), and a work by one of the greatest 20th Century composers, Bela Bartok (Contrasts, for violin, clarinet and piano).

The Sun Rivers Trio is Sally Arai, clarinet; Cvetozar Vutev, violin; and Naomi Cloutier, piano.

Tickets are $25, $10 Youth (under 19), $15 KSOundcheck Members (age 19-34), and can be purchased from Kamloops Live! Box Office at 250-374-5483 or www.kamloopslive.ca.
