We will be concluding our  2023/24 Season with Jeremy Dutcher & the KSO, featuring award-winning classically-trained Canadian Indigenous tenor, composer, musicologist, and performer, Jeremy Dutcher. There are two performances in Sagebrush Theatre: Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, both at 7:30 pm.

A Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) member of the Tobique First Nation in North-West New Brunswick, Dutcher exploded on to the Canadian music scene following his sensational debut album Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, which won the Polaris Music Award in 2018 and the Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year in 2019. He recorded the album following a research project on archival recordings of traditional Maliseet songs at the Canadian Museum of History, many of which are no longer being passed down to contemporary Maliseet youth. His music is based on centuries-old traditional Indigenous melodies that are re-imagined and reinvigorated with elements of pop, rock, opera, and of course, live orchestra, to create a dramatic and unique musical experience.

Joining the Orchestra and Dutcher for several songs is the KSO Chorus, which provides local singers with the opportunity to perform masterworks for choir and orchestra in concert with the KSO, and is led by Chorusmaster Tomas Bijok.

Leading the orchestra is guest conductor Jennifer Tung. Jennifer leads a uniquely versatile career as music director and pianist, as Artistic Director of Toronto City Opera and Assistant Conductor to the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. She has helmed productions of The Mikado, Sweeney Todd, and Peter Brook’s Tragedy of Carmen for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, and La Traviata for Opera York. She has also served as the Assistant Conductor for the DORA Award winning opera Shanawdithit for Tapestry Opera and Opera on the Avalon. Jennifer serves on the faculty of Toronto’s Glenn Gould School and holds degrees in vocal performance and collaborative piano from the Eastman School of Music.
