The biggest and best sale of gently used books, music, and more, thanks to your generous donations and our fantastic volunteers! This semi-annual fundraiser runs in the spring and fall of every year. All money raised by the sale goes towards the Kamloops Symphony Society’s operating expenses, which include everything from concert productions to educational programs.
Our next sale will take place sometime in the Fall of 2023. Stay tuned for the announcement of the exact dates and times.
We are unable to accept donations at this time. Once we know when and where the next sale will be happening we will be announcing when donations can be dropped off.
Remember, we do not accept:
Why has the book sale been so successful for 25 years?close We have an amazing group of volunteers who care very much about the KSO, the music, the books, and you! There is no way this sale would have become the enormous success that it has been for 25 years without them. What happens when I drop off my books?close The volunteer sorters will ensure that the books you bring in during donation week are quickly priced and put back out all day, every day during the sale. These amazing individuals know their books and do their best to ensure they get back into readers, musicians, and listeners hands as soon as possible. Why is there a list of things you will not take?close You see all the reminders of what we do not take during the sale. Here’s why. Text books are outdated and therefore can’t go back out. Unfortunately the internet has taken away our love of encyclopedias (you can tell how old I am by that comment!) and some of this information too is outdated. Magazines also may be outdated, somewhat tattered, and usually topic specific. You will see any on hand on the free table. Most of those remain there until they are discarded. What happens to books you can’t sell?close AND, speaking of discards, this is the hard part. We all very much dislike that we must get rid of books that do not sell. Books cannot be recycled. This means that after we have exhausted all avenues over a period of time, we must pay to have them taken to the landfill. Textbooks and encyclopedias are extremely heavy, and the landfill is based on weight. This is extremely costly, to say the least. Please understand why that list exists. If you are uncertain, do not include it in your donations. The cost of discards to us the past few years has increased significantly, and so with some awareness we are hoping that this will decline. I have been watching the many extra hours that the volunteers have been putting in as well to try to keep these discards out of landfill. Creative crafting, senior home drops, and other such methods are amazing attempts to keep these out of the landfills. Please join us in finding solutions to these challenges. How do people show their support?close Finally, let’s talk about the incredible support we get with the donated use of the tables and the use of the space during our events. And never forget the incredible impact of those who donate, those who buy, and those who share our love of Barb’s Used Book and Music Sale. Nothing can truly replace that book in hand, the sheet music on the stand, or that record playing in the background. Thank you for your support! Who Is Barb?close The sale began in 1997, and was the brilliant idea of Barb Corbishley, one of the board members at the time. After her passing, it was renamed Barb’s Used Book & Music Sale in her honour.
