It’s been twenty-one years since I was appointed Music Director of your Kamloops Symphony and, over the years, Kamloops has embraced both the orchestra and me.
This is my city and my home. It gives me great joy when I meet audience members out and about in the city and hear their comments on the latest symphony offering. If the comment is positive, I feel we have done the job well and, if there is room for improvement, I listen and learn.
After all, we are providing more than just entertainment – we spark memories, stir your soul and add moments of sublime joy to your life. At least that’s what we try to do, and the more capable the orchestra becomes, the more successful we can be at touching your heart.
In the coming season we are celebrating thirty-five years of musical growth by the Kamloops Symphony and marking the passing of Gustav Mahler 100 years ago and the founding of Fort Kamloops 200 years ago. There is romance for Valentine’s Day, some exotica with East Meets West and the perennial favourite Rhapsody in Blue.
Our soloists include the legendary George Gao with his erhu, stunning young pianists Mauro Bertoli and Sheng Cai, Kamloops Symphony Award winner Madeleine Haynes and sensational cellist David Eggert.
