FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR
Great musical works of art reflect the personality and character of the composer. The music may also reflect the social environment and state of mind current at the time of composition. Beethoven, for instance, was known as a powerful personality with an irascible nature and thus his music is powerful and intense. As he himself said, "Music is the wine which inspires us to new generative processes, and I am the Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine to make mankind spiritually drunken." He certainly knew what he was doing!
Orchestral music also has the ability to spark certain emotions and it must be said that not everyone experiences the same ones. The music resonates with our memories...with a feeling of nostalgia for events and people in our lives.
The performance of orchestral music is a passionate pursuit. The Kamloops Symphony revels in passion and our audience responds. We also enjoy humour, melody and music from many different genres so we present programmes that also contain these elements.
In this brochure you will find a series of programmes covering a broad musical spectrum. We hope you will join us as we all become "spiritually drunken" on live music!
